An Apache Hadoop® Cluster When You Need One,
An Efficient Workstation When You Don't

The Limulus™ Personal Hadoop Edge workstation provides industry-leading price-to-performance with a personal workstation feel. The low power and noise profile allows Limulus systems to be located almost anywhere and remotely managed from everywhere. These turn-key appliances can be used for:

  • Local group/departmental analytics server for Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Kafka, etc.
  • Private/personal (secured/offline) data analytics cluster
  • Software development platform (own the reset switch)
  • Factory floor data acquisition (Kafka) and analytics (Spark, Hadoop, Tensor Flow)
  • Classroom and learning resource in almost any location, and more.

Each Limulus Model 452 cluster packs four standard Micro-ATX (μATX) motherboards into a standard PC case sharing a single high efficient power supply (one wall plug). Designed for the office, lab, classroom, or shop, the mobile Limulus Edge cluster runs quiet and cool using a standard electrical service -- No Data center needed! Worker nodes are fully removable μATX blades with pluggable hot swap power (can be swapped while the rest of the system is running).

The master controls the power to the three worker nodes using a simple software interface. The user or the resource scheduler can power on each of the additional nodes as/when needed. At idle, with nodes turned off, a Limulus consumes approximately 60 Watts of power.

Extremely cost effective - pays for itself after 10-12 months of equivalent cloud usage. Ask about our white paper.

"Day One, Ready to Run": Turn-key Powerhouse with Support

Each Limulus comes with a fully installed Linux OS and Cloudera/Hortonworks HDP 3.x. Apache Hadoop software. The system is ready for use upon its first "power-up." There is no other configuration needed other than user/site customization. All Linux software is fully open source (SRPMS available), integrated, and upgradable (via YUM/RPM). Each system comes with on-board basic documentation. /first

The fully configured system includes the following capabilities:

  • Utilities for adding/removing users, node power control, cluster load, CPU governor states
  • GUI interfaces for adding/removing users and for node power control
  • Node management with pdsh and WhatsUp
  • Fully configured firewall, log management, and replication using rsyslog
  • Automatic SSH key generation and propagation of users accounts on nodes
  • NAT configured on nodes for full LAN/Internet access
  • Complete Apache Hadoop/Spark Kafka installation
  • Integrated Ambari Apache Hadoop management GUI

A full year of Return to Depot hardware and 90-day software support is included with each system. Additional software support is available.

Additional 9-month and 12-month support packages are also available. The basic support package covers cluster software and operating system issues but does not include Cloudera/Hortonworks HDP support. Contact Basement Supercomputing for more information these and other comprehensive support options.
